Sustainability World
A key challenge in sustainability

How might we best stay within the limits of the world's resources?

According to the Global Resources Outlook 2019 report released at the UNEP Headquarters Nairobi, during the UN Environment Assembly, materials extraction is a key culprit in climate change and biodiversity loss. The report mentions that “the extraction and processing of materials, fuels, and food make up about half of total global greenhouse gas emissions and more than 90 percent of biodiversity loss and water stress”. By 2010, land-use changes created approximately an 11 percent loss of global species. This will only worsen unless we urgently undertake a systemic reform of resource use.

In Sustainability World Rebel sees that staying within the limits of the planet is a key challenge we need to meet. We have many Rebels working on integrating the Circular Economy to help tackle this challenge.

You are the new minister of climate policy in your country. Which 3 behaviours would you encourage people to add to their lifestyle, to improve planetary health?

The challenge Humanity is using nature 1.8 times faster than our planet’s bio-capacity can regenerate. That’s equivalent to using the resources of 1.8 Earths. We created a mini-game where you can decide on some changes you can make to reduce the pressure on resources!
